CopperTop Tavern – Foodie Friday

Outdoor Seating

When Foodie Friday rolled around this week, I was more excited than usual. I haven’t eaten at The CopperTop Tavern in months, so it was long overdue. CopperTop is famous in the county for their delicious food and fun atmosphere. We took our food to-go but eating there is an even better experience, especially if the weather is nice enough to sit outside in their new patio dining.

Brisket Chips

Brisket Chips

With unique appetizers like Salmon Bites or Brisket Poutine, we couldn’t pass up getting one to share. We all were sold on the Brisket Chips. Homemade chips topped with smoked brisket, beer cheese, jalapenos, bacon, red onion, lettuce, and vinegar BBQ; this could be a meal in itself. And they load it up too, so it’s easy to share with a group.

Big CopperTop Burger

On to the meals, one of us had to get the famous Big CopperTop Burger, which was voted the best burger in LaGrange County. Between the pretzel bun is a burger cooked-to-order, topped with bacon jam, cheddar cheese, fried pickles, onion straws, lettuce, tomato, and a bistro sauce. If you have a hard time deciding between the endless options, this is a great go-to for a first timer. The burger is so good, it’s running up against the best burgers in Indiana, which you can vote for here.

Firehouse Burger

Firehouse Burger

Staying on the topic of burgers, I was looking for something a little spicier. The Firehouse burger was calling my name. Starting again with a cooked-to-order burger, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, jalapenos, jalapeno aioli, and onion straws, sandwiched between a brioche bun. Warning: this burger does have a kick! But the fries on the side help balance out the heat.

Sea Bird Cajun Chicken Sandwich

Sea Bird Chicken Sandwich

Wanting to be different and get something other than a burger, my co-worker opted for the Sea Bird Cajun Chicken Sandwich. Their hand breaded chicken is topped with pepper jack cheese, cajun french fries, grilled cajun shrimp, cajun aioli, lettuce, and tomato on a pretzel bun. The shrimp is the perfect twist on a chicken sandwich, and after trying a bite I might have to order this next time.

Chicken Tender Basket

Chicken Tenders

The chicken tender basket was the last meal choice of the group. It sounds basic, but their breading on the tenders are crispy and the meat stays juicy. The basket comes with their fries, coleslaw and whatever sauce you want to dip the tenders in.

If CopperTop opened a location closer to my office, it would become a major problem (or solution). I would be there weekly to make sure I could try everything on the menu at least once. If you’re in the area looking for a unique menu, look no further. You won’t be disappointed with the food or the atmosphere. Also, keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates on live entertainment, or specials.
