Riverwood Pottery Summer Carving Classes

Join us here in the pottery studio for some fun out of the sun and getting dirty with clay!

We can’t wait to create with you something special and unique that you can use over and over again. We want you to get your hands dirty and de-stress while carving and designing your own hand thrown piece. This summer, pick between carving a small serving tray, vase or an oil bottle. We like to have fun and allow your creative juices to flow. After introductions, we’ll give you a glimpse into the making of our pieces with some demos on the wheel. Following that, you become the maker as we teach you the basic techniques used to carve the clay and make the design your own. After the carving, we’ll let you finish off your custom piece with a glaze of your choosing and we’ll prepare her for the journey into the kiln. Here’s how the night’s schedule will look:

Hellos & Intros- 5 minutes

Wheel Demos- 10 minutes

Design and Carving Time- 70 minutes

Finishing Touches & clean up- 5 minutes

Each participant will work to carve a hand thrown item that is dried to the perfect stage to decorate ahead of bisque firing the work. We create all of the items you carve by hand so your selection of the item is final! After the class we will bisque fire, glaze and glaze fire each item made before shipping the item to a location of your choosing. A simple snack and beverage will be provided during carving time and you’ll also have the opportunity to win pottery prizes.

Most everything you need is provided for the night, you will receive an email before the event with all the information you will need.

Parking is available on the North side of the building, and plenty of street parking is available too. Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes early so that we can get everyone settled before starting our demos.

Ages 15+ / Beginner Friendly

Length of Event: 90 minutes

Price per participant: $75 (includes shipping)

Class Capacity: Classes require at least 6 participants to run and max out at 12 participants. We will share any cancellations of your class date 1 week in advance and refund your experience price.
