Ribs. Brisket. Pulled Pork. Chicken. Is your mouth watering yet? Then you missed a great opportunity to have a full-on feast. The first ever Ribs @ Rogers event was a great success! The David Rogers Memorial Park filled up early in the morning with 14 vendors firing up their grills. I was lucky enough to be one of the 12 judges for the competition, not a bad gig, right?
The BBQ competitors are all professionals, you could tell by the smell in the air and the work of art they serve you. Judging went just as well as you would expect, getting to try several of each meat, scoring them on a 2-9 scale. The hard part was criticizing since they were all mouth-watering good. By then end of it I ate so much I thought they were going to have to roll me out of there.
After judging was finished, ticket sales opened to the public. $1 per ticket and you can go around to the different competitors cashing in your tickets on a pile of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken, smoked mac & cheese, beans, or all of the above! The only part people struggled with is deciding what meats to get from which vendor, because trust me, you’d want to try them all.
While I was waiting on my food to digest, I enjoyed sitting in front of the stage listening to the live band. It was a perfect setting for a sunny Saturday afternoon. The family-friendly environment and joyful people walking around made it even better. Who would be cranky when they have 50+ varieties of meat to choose from?
Hopefully this is just the beginning of a long-lasting annual event because you’ll definitely want to experience this for yourself!
