Baked goods are a given in Amish Country, but the Donuts can be especially wonderful, and there are so many kinds to choose from!

  • Rise & Roll is famous for their iced and powdered cinnamon donut.
  • Blue Gate Bakery has a variety of tasty and ENOURMOUS donuts.
  • Janie’s Donuts aren’t as easy to find; they’re from a local food truck and they’re seasonal. But their large, round sourdough donuts are served fresh, hot, glazed, and are so worth it.
  • Foltz Bakery is a beloved institution on Main Street in LaGrange, with a long history, and a go-to baked good: the Diamond Donut.

And if you have donuts, you’ll want coffee! Luckily, you can find top-notch Coffee in Shipshewana, hot or iced, and in tons of tasty combinations:

  • Kitchen Cupboard (located in the Davis Mercantile)
  • Das Coffee House
  • Five Lakes Coffee

Locally available milk means delicious local cheeses, and if you’re a Cheese Curd fan, you’re in luck. Not only are there yummy hot, fried versions at Millie’s and the Auction Restaurant, but there’s also the fresh, squeaky, uncooked kind that you can taste right where they’re made!

Arguably two of the items this area does best are pretzels and pie, so the competition is strong!

It’s likely that you could try a different kind of Pie every single day for a month and still not run out of options. The kinds of pie run the gamut from cream pies to fruit pies, to variations of the state favorite, Sugar Cream Pie. You’ll even find chocolate, peanut butter, and butterscotch pies, so there’s undoubtably a pie for every palate. The list of places where tasty pie is available locally is a long one, but these Chocolate peanut butter pieare some of the best.
