The CVB will host an #InIndiana Ice Sculpture this year!

The 17th Annual Shipshewana Ice Festival is this Friday and Saturday, (Jan. 19th & 20th) in and around the popular Downtown Shopping District in the wintry wonderland of Shipshewana, Indiana. We invite you to join us for both fun days! Get the most from your visit by purchasing an Ice Festival Pin!

For this year’s Festival, the Shipshewana/LaGrange County Visitor’s Center is again partnering with the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) to sponsor our very own “IN INDIANA” ice sculpture right out front of the CVB office, located at 350 S. Van Buren St. The ice sculpture will be a freezing cold version of the real-life selfie sign sculpture that currently resides in front of the Davis Mercantile. (Read more about how that happened, below.)

We invite you to stop by the Visitor’s Center and take your pic with our icy selfie sign during the festival (or until our temporary chill art finally melts.) While your in town, hop over to the Davis Mercantile and get a photo with the original too!

We want to see your photos! Use #INindiana in your social media posts or submit your photos here on our website for potential future #VisitShipshewana marketing purposes.

The Backstory about the #InIndiana Selfie Sign:

The Shipshewana/LaGrange County CVB (LCCVB) is proud to have partnered with the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) to bring one of our state’s brand-new “IN INDIANA” selfie signs to our beloved travel destination for an entire year. The IDDC unveiled their “IN INDIANA” tourism campaign in 2022, using downloadable templates, the #INindiana hashtag, new highway signs, and targeted advertising to encourage travelers to visit the Hoosier State.

The newest component of the campaign are the selfie signs, which debuted at the Indiana State Fair at the end of July and have now made their way to their final installation locations for the next year. One will be in northern Indiana, one in Central Indiana, and one in southern Indiana, and Shipshewana has been chosen to be the first location to host the sign in northern Indiana.

“We love to see Visit LaGrange County and the town of Shipshewana embracing the adoption of IDDC’s IN INDIANA messaging,” said Elaine Bedel, Secretary and CEO of the Indiana Destination Development Corporation. “Showcasing the IN INDIANA selfie sign in a prominent location will help to promote Shipshewana along with Indiana as our visitors share their photos via social media. We appreciate the partnership.”

The sign is a 3-D block logo structure standing five feet tall, hard-coated with polyurethane resin, and finished with automotive enamel, for extreme durability, making it suitable for outdoor use and public interaction. The sign will have pride of place outside of one of Shipshewana’s biggest draws, both figuratively and literally, Davis Mercantile, located at 225 N. Harrison St. in Shipshewana, Indiana.

Mariah Contreras, former Executive Director of the Shipshewana Retail Merchant’s Alliance, and granddaughter of Davis Mercantile owner Alvin Miller, stated “Our family is honored to showcase the new Indiana logo photo opportunity and to represent a wonderful destination in Indiana.”

The IDDC and the LCCVB invite the public and all our visitors to see the new sign and start snapping and sharing those selfies. Make sure you’re using #INindiana and #visitshipshewana to promote our area and show us how much fun you’re having!

Picture yourself #INindiana!
