Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and members of the Indiana Destination Development Corporation (IDDC) presented 15 Hoosier Hospitality awards during a ceremony at the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis on October 30th, for their high level of service in tourism-related jobs at hotels, restaurants, attractions and other destinations.

“Hoosier hospitality is at the core of this ceremony,” said Elaine Bedel, IDDC Secretary and CEO. “We see it and feel it every day in Indiana. In hospitality and tourism, we take great pride in our communities and  recognize the importance of going the extra mile and how much it makes a difference.”

Lupe Troyer works as an Information Specialist at the Shipshewana Visitor’s Center, meaning she’s usually the first to greet newcomers.

Lupe does her best to answer questions, give advice, and find whatever info visitors are searching for, all with a positive outlook and an outgoing, friendly personality. Not only is she a well-known face in the community, but she possesses an impressive wealth of knowledge about its people, culture, history, and destinations.

“We couldn’t be more proud and pleased that Lupe joined our staff this year as our Information Specialist. She excels at making newcomers feel welcome and goes above and beyond to assist everyone that comes through our doors.” says Sonya Nash, Executive Director of the Shipshewana/LaGrange County Visitor’s Bureau.

“A couple of good examples come to mind” says CVB Administrative Assistant Sandy Mast, “she once sat and chatted with a family from out of town, here in the Visitor’s Center, for at least an hour or two during a long power outage. And another time we had an Italian man who didn’t speak any English who was traveling alone. He needed to get to South Bend to meet up with his daughter, but had gotten his bus schedule mixed-up. He would’ve had to find somewhere to stay overnight, but instead Lupe found someone who spoke Italian and then got him a ride to South Bend that same day. She’s very resourceful!”

It’s well known that outstanding service is a significant factor in determining whether a person returns to an individual business or destination, and Lupe is always outstanding.
