Meet Jess Linder! The hardworking business co-owner, wife and mom has made relaxation her business, literally! Read on to get to know her and her family a little better, and make a point of getting out to the Trading Post this spring and summer – you won’t be sorry!

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?

A: Andy grew up in LaGrange, and I am from northwest IN. We lived in Indianapolis since we’ve been together and moved to Mongo in June of 2018, when we bought the Trading Post. Then, in January of 2023, we bought the convenient store/gas station in town. So we now own the Mongo General Store as well. We have 2 daughters, Lyla (10) and Ophelia (8), who are growing like weeds and showing more interest in our businesses (which we love). 😊

Q: Can you tell everyone more about Trading Post Outfitters?

A: We are a boat rental business with a campground on the Pigeon River in the middle of the Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife area. We offer 4 paddle trip options, ranging from 4 miles to 13 miles and have single kayaks, double kayaks, kids kayaks and canoes. Our campground has around 60 sites with electric and primitive sites. We host many types of customers, from solo paddlers who need a peaceful day on the river to large company, school, or other group outings.

Q: What are you surprised that people do not know about the Pigeon River Fish & Wildlife Area?

A: It is one of the largest fish & wildlife areas in the state with almost 12,000 acres of land and 17 miles of free-flowing river. It is also home to many endangered species of plants and animals.

Q: Which of your Paddling Trips is your favorite, and why?

A: Curtis Creek is my favorite trip. It’s a good mid-length trip that has a good mix of sun and shade and different types of scenery. It’s my happy place! 🙂

Q: What is the most interesting thing you get to see or do in your professional life?

A: We get to experience people at their happiest, which makes our job so rewarding. It’s hard work, but seeing our customers have a great time relaxing and having fun makes it all worth it!

Q: Is there anything coming up in 2024 that you’re particularly excited about?

A: We will be collaborating with our other business, the Mongo General Store, more this year. So customers will be able to grab a boxed lunch for the river or easily order pizza, subs or other food to enjoy while they’re visiting. We are also working on featuring more local and sustainable products in both businesses.

Q: What do you love about living and/or working in LaGrange County?

A:  We have never experienced such a friendly, hard-working and helpful community before. Our staff, customers, and community are some of the best we’ve ever interacted with. We are so happy with our choice to move here and put down our roots.
