The LaGrange County parks have many outdoor opportunities for you … outdoor recreation, programs, environmental education, natural areas to explore, beaches to enjoy on hot summer days and so much more. Each park has distinct character and natural communities. We encourage you to get out and play, and bring your friends.

Pine Knob park

PINE KNOB PARK

254 acres of oaks, pines, soft maples, prairie oak savanna, Mike Metz Fen, and Meteer and Duff Lakes. Field archery targets and a wooded 3-D archery trail with life-sized game targets. $5.00 range fee for 3-D trail. 4 miles of accessible trails comprised of boardwalks and crushed limestone. Accessible fishing pier on Meteer Lake and Duff Lake. Picnic tables and grills are provided. The Clubhouse is available for reservation.

Dallas Lake park

DALLAS LAKE PARK

140 acres on the south shore of Dallas Lake. A sandy beach with a swimming pier for summer fun (no lifeguard on duty). For wildlife and bird watching enjoy the wetland observation deck overlooking Pond Lil, a state nature preserve. A lodge and pavilion are available for group rental. A 1.75 mile walking trail meanders through wetland, prairie, and woods. Admission is $5.00 per car, buggy or motorcycle; or $1.00 per person on bicycles, busses, 10-15 pass. vans; Season pass is $40.

Delt Church playground

DELT CHURCH PARK

110 acres of woods, prairie, and mowed grassy play area. Bordered by the North Branch of Elkhart River. On one side of a grass playing field is the MegaTower accessible playground, with zones divided for 2-5 years and 5-12 years. Three picnic pavilions are available for reservations. Throughout the park is an 18-hole disc golf course. 2 miles of hiking/biking trails go through the woods and restored prairie. Picnic tables and grills are provided.

Pavillion at David Rogers park

DAVID ROGERS MEMORIAL PARK

Most notable for its six authentic pioneer log buildings relocated to the park. It also is the gravesite and memorial to pioneer philanthropist, Dr. David Rogers. The log barn and picnic pavilion may be reserved – this park makes a great rustic wedding venue. Full weekend rental packages are available.

Maplewood Nature Center

MAPLE WOOD NATURE CENTER

Northern hardwood forest, wooded swamp, and wet prairie with nearly 2 miles of trails. Enjoy walking trails among wildflowers, birds, and nearly 40 species of trees.

Shipshewana Lake

SHIPSHEWANA LAKE

Quiet, lake side, natural park setting for visiting, picnics, relaxing, and playing. Just within ¾ mile from Pumkinvine Trail!

Amenities: playground, picnic, grassy area, lakeside view, charcoal grill, pavilion with picnic tables.

NATURE PRESERVES

Our county has over 12,000 acres of preserved land available for natural enjoyment. Bird watching, plant and tree identification, wildlife and nature photography … however you choose to spend your time, you’ll be in awe of our local beauty.

PRESERVES NOT MANAGED BY THE COUNTY:

DUFF MEMORIAL PARK

  • A wetland natural area on the south shore of Cedar Lake, with no amenities.
  • Set aside for habitat preservation of sensitive wetland species.
  • Restoration efforts are in progress to remove invasive tree/plant species.
